For many people with drug and alcohol addiction problems residential treatment in either a detox or rehab facility can be the difference between life and death. Most of the facilities in Sacramento are based on the social model of recovery. In this atmosphere, the addict or alcoholic is closely monitored during the first 24 hours, and supervision is provided 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Some residential treatment programs are government funded, but there are also several that accept private payment including insurance, cash, credit, or even personal check.housepoolvert 150x150 Options For Addiction Treatment, Outpatient Drug Rehab, And Outpatient Alcohol Rehab In Sacramento, California

For anyone choosing to enter treatment, the first step in the process is usually drug or alcohol detox treatment. During detox in a social model setting, the client is prescribed medication from a contracted physician. The purpose of the medication is to ease the pain of withdrawals. For many people, the symptoms of withdrawal can include body pain, the shakes, night sweats, and even a depressed mental state. It is critical that the client is closely monitored during the initial phase of withdrawal because the pain and anguish associated with the withdrawal can be too much for them to handle. If isolated or trying to quit “cold turkey” on their own many people end up going back to their drug of choice because it’s easier than breaking free of their addiction. As you can imagine this only prolongs the vicious cycle of the substance abuse.

After the detox treatment phase of someone’s recovery, many people will choose to enter a longer term treatment program. Inpatient treatment for addiction and substance abuse is much more structured than most residential detox programs. Most treatment facilities have activities scheduled like group counseling, exercise, journaling, recovery planning and one-on-one counseling. Inpatient treatment can last anywhere from 28 to 60 days or even longer.

Another option for some people is to go into an intensive outpatient drug rehab or alcohol rehab program after their stay in a residential detox. In outpatient drug and alcohol treatment, the client will work with a certified counselor on things such as recovery planning, sobriety maintenance, and possibly anger management. In the social model form of outpatient counseling, everything will be done based on the 12 steps and a good portion of the treatment will be to get people aware of and interested in the 12 step fellowship.

Whether the addict chooses to go into an outpatient drug rehab or outpatient alcohol rehab program after detox or after a longer stay in residential treatment, the outpatient treatment gives them a chance to ease back into normal life while at the same time maintaining their continuity of care. The frequency of care provided in the outpatient counseling program is completely up the the individual’s needs. For some as little as one day per week will be sufficient to keep them on the road to recovery, but for others as many as 5 days per week may be required for them to maintain their sobriety.

Some addicts try to avoid inpatient treatment at all costs. Either they are in denial about the intensity of their addiction, or they refuse to put their life aside for awhile to get help. Many of these people choose to pursue outpatient drug or alcohol counseling as an alternative to inpatient treatment. For some of them the outpatient program is sufficient to get their addiction under control, but for many others the outpatient counseling is only a way for them to appease loved ones, employers, or the courts. In the end, these people eventually end up in residential treatment to confront their substance abuse or addiction problem.

Pathways Recovery provides several options for people seeking addiction or substance abuse treatment or counseling. For many people they will need to check themselves into our Sacramento Rehab program, but for others they may choose to seek help through our Outpatient Substance Abuse Counseling located in the Sacramento area.
