Why Do People Quit Drinking Or Doing Drugs?

One of the number one motivators that people list when they decide to quit drinking or doing drugs is that they have heard the stories of others who have proceeded down the path to sobriety and recovery before them.  Realizing that others can do it sunlight Stories From Othersand have done it can encourage someone to make the decision to quit.

Beginning this month, we will begin listing comments on our website from past clientele that have gotten sober with the help of Pathways Recovery.  Our goal is not to “toot our horn” but rather to hopefully encourage others to seek help for themselves or their loved ones with the knowledge that others have gone before them and succeeded in their efforts to get sober.

We realize that taking those initial steps towards sobriety can be a challenge.  Most often there is fear, uncertainty, and doubt about how things will go.  Fear of failure may be a factor, but for people who have been drinking or using drugs for an extended period of time quitting can be a lot like giving up their oldest and best friend.

Storytelling is a big factor when it comes to recovery.  When you hear the stories of another recovering addict or alcoholic, quite often you will hear something that resonates with your own experience.  When this happens, the layers of fear that go along with the desire to get sober begin to shed away.

At Pathways Recovery, we can help you with the first step on your road to recovery with our detox treatment services and put together a roadmap for success for future treatment or recovery planning.  Don’t let fear be the reason you fail to act.  Talk to one of our counselors today, and they will help you understand all the reasons you should do something.
